The Environmental, Health, Safety and Security (EHS&S) Professional is responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate EHS&S regulations. This individual will administer all required and applicable EHS&S programs for the Franklin, VA site. In addition to working directly with plant personnel, this individual will work with Corporate EHS&S on other functions as required. This individual must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to multi task in a high pressure work environment. This position will report to the Plant Manager.


Responsibilities include:


  • Implement and maintain the Responsible Care Management System (RC14001) and Zero Incident Culture Program.
  • Monitor and maintain metrics associated with plant specific EHS scorecards.
  • Implement and oversee a plant Behavior Based Safety Program.
  • Design training programs to identify safety hazards (e.g., OSHA – 10 hour training)
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analysis investigations.
  • Maintain and comply with environmental permits such as air, water, and wastewater as well as interacts with the appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Developing and maintaining all aspects of waste (classification and disposal).
  • Oversee the administering of all industrial health monitoring, respirator fit tests and associated programs.
  • Oversee programs such as line break, management of change, hot work, confined space, hazardous energy control and other associated programs.
  • Facilitate all efforts regarding employee safety culture.
  • Conduct required safety training for all plant personnel to include administration of record keeping through the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Insure all Safety Data Sheets are current and available.
  • Insure compliance and tracking through safety reporting system (EH&S Dashboard)
  • Audit Safety Data Sheets and provide guidance to Research and Development regarding new incoming raw materials for new products.
  • Coordinate insurance, regulatory, and EHS&S audits and follow up on corrective action items.
  • Conduct all EHS&S related incident investigations; develop and follow up on corrective action items.
  • Back up the Plant Manager as Incident Commander.
  • Other duties as assigned by Plant Manager.
  • Adhere to all aspects of Responsible Care®.


  • Minimum of Bachelors of science in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science or other related degree.
  • At least 5 years of environmental and/or safety related experience. #LI-EN1
