As an Indirect Materials & Services Manager in Wilmington, DE, you will be sourcing indirect materials and services requirements for the North American region and participating in the development and execution of global procurement strategy. Indirect sourcing requires a unique blend of analysis, stakeholder management, and process development along with traditional sourcing and transactional processes. Within indirect sourcing there is a large volume of vendors that require a broad range of expertise and prioritization. You will understand your assigned categories, analyze the market, prepare sourcing strategy and using RFP process, negotiate, implement, and track results. Additionally, you will develop “should cost” financial and predictive modeling tools to assist with decision making; provide forward looking guidance on trends, threats, and opportunities throughout the complete value/supply chain; create contingency plans; build positive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders; support new supplier qualifications to expand supply base; utilize e-technologies (i.e. reverse auctions, Internet research, e-RFP, etc.); and ensure compliance with safety and responsible care programs.


Specific Indirect Buyer Responsibilities

  • Purchase materials, equipment, suppliers and services complying with corporate purchasing regulations and policies.
  • Review and analyze purchase requisitions, investigate and develop sources of supplies, prepare bid specifications, issue bid requests, and review quotations.
  • Coordinate purchasing policies/procedures with departments and vendors, acting as a liaison between user departments and vendor
  • Examine and analyze departmental purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy of information; contact department initiator to clarify or complete information; determine method or process requisition based on dollar amount, timeliness required, existing open contract, and/or competitive bidding.
  • Negotiate contract and purchases of indirect materials and service to ensure best conditions for Solenis either for plant specific requirement or North America/global contract requirements.
  • Facilitate North America/Global relationships of contracts within applicable regions between Solenis stakeholders and supplier.
  • Support and participate in internal procurement/Solenis team goals and activities to enhance processes and team function.
  • Resolve purchasing related issues between department and vendor
  • Seeks new sources of suppliers for materials and equipment and secures favorable terms.
  • Interacts with departments on questionable items on the requisitions and reinforces purchasing procedures to departments.
  • Secures bids on requisitions or processes them for purchase; prepares bid invitations and recommends approval of bids.
  • Manage fleet management company in USA and Canada
  • Summarize historical spend and forecast future spend by critical cost elements for previous and current fiscal years.
  • Review contracts and place in condition for signature by authorized Solenis employee.
  • Update and publish vehicle policy as required.
  • Ensure Solenis Vehicle Agreement is on file for each driver using DocuSign.
  • Prepare, document, and approve vehicle specifications (“Selectors”)
  • Work with Solenis senior management to ensure that only eligible drivers receive vehicles and that these drivers are assigned the correct vehicle for their job description.
  • Acquire vehicles for new employees and recover vehicles from terminated employees according to standards, and update records to reflect changes.
  • Replace vehicles according to replacement policy.
  • Ensure compliance with Solenis Vehicle Policy, especially fuel card, maintenance and collision programs, and take corrective action when necessary to achieve compliance targets.
  • Maintain accurate information in fleet management company’s web portal.
  • Approve/reject out-of-policy repair and maintenance requests.
  • Coordinate transfer of vehicles between drivers and ensure records are updated according to standards.
  • Publish 2 driving safety articles per year on the Solenis intranet site.
  • Recover fines for violations and take corrective action with repeat offenders according to standards
  • Implement the fringe/taxable benefit program.
  • Implement the payroll deduction program.
  • Work with Solenis EHS and training department to develop a Learning Management System (LMS) driver training program, or equivalent.


  • Experience leading an indirect procurement team.
  • Minimum 4-year college diploma or equivalent; business, technical, supply chain education preferred
  • 5-7 years’ experience in sourcing or procurement
  • Ability to work effectively in a geographically distributed organization
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures
  • Excellent organization capabilities and project management skills
  • Data analysis skills - Excellent knowledge of computer software programs including MS Word, Excel, Power Point and SFDC.
  • Problem solving skills with a “can-do attitude”
  • Customer Service Orientation – Ability to identify, understand and give priority to satisfy the needs of internal and external customers
  • Quality Orientation – Ability and propensity to take action necessary to ensure all work is completed with accuracy and integrity
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
